Pastor of St. James states parishioners give “overwhelming support” for Cathedral sized church

The following letter was sent to each alderman in Belvidere regarding St. James’ pending zoning request.

The church will hold 850 and be 70 feet (5 stories) high.

In a similar way Charles G. Popp,  Member of the Parish Finance Committee and a lawyer writes the alderman:  “…there are several inaccurate claims by some of the few objectors. Please feel free to contact me if you have serious questions or concerns.  (letter shown below)

Mr. Popp is the former city attorney.  I thought that under the open meeting act “inaccurate” statements should be questioned in a meeting open to the public.  A court reporter actually took verbatim records of the testimony which as of July 1, Mr. Popp’s office has not released to the Zoning Department or the public.  Yet Mr. Popp wishes to talk to the alderman before the verbatim record is available.
